Mace of Molag Bal. A mace created by an involuntary orcish artisan, the Vampire’s Mace was originally noted to drain an opponent to benefit the wielder. The Fourth Era would see its enchantment change to be more purely offensive, while picking up Soul Trapping. Much like the Ring of Namira, it seems that neither version earned much love. The Mace of Molag Bal is an unenchanted version of Molag Bal's artifact. It can be found on Bal's corpse and pickpocketed off of Altano's body during the quest Old Guilts. Mace of Molag Bal, also known as the Vampire's Mace, is one of Molag Bal's artifacts. It can be improved using an ebony ingot. Its enchantment drains its victims of twenty-five points of magicka and stamina with every strike. Its enchantment will also inflict its target with soul trap for three seconds. » The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind G.O.T.Y. » Molag bal the daedric prince Molag bal the daedric prince. | Molag Bal's shrine in Yansirramus |
Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Talk to the statue of Molag Bal in Yansirramus.
- Travel to Kora-Dur.
- Slay the Daedroth Menta Na.
- Return to Yansirramus for your reward.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Finding the shrine[edit]
Molag Bal's shrine can be found in the ruins of Yansirramus, two islands west of Tel Aruhn. Note that you may be able to access the shrine safely, but exploring any of the side chambers will likely get you attacked.
Menta Na needs to be banished from Tamriel.
The God is displeased[edit]
Molag Bal complains about one of his servants, a lazy Daedroth named Menta Na who has retreated into the caves of Kora-Dur instead of creating the usual havoc and terror. Molag Bal gives you a key and asks you to kill Menta Na to obtain his favor and a reward.
Travel to Kora-Dur[edit]
Kora-Dur can be found east of the stronghold of Kogoruhn, far north of the Red Mountain Crater. Freegate for mac. It is located high up on a hillside, and is rather easy to miss. The door is heavily locked but fortunately you have a key.
Slay Menta Na[edit]
You'll find Menta Na in the innermost chamber. Among the loot you'll find here is a Daedric Staff. Return to the shrine to receive your reward, the Mace of Molag Bal.
Notes[edit]
- Menta Na appears only when the quest is active.
Bugs[edit]
- You may find that after you slay Menta Na and return to the statue of Molag Bal in Yansirramus, the statue will not activate to complete the quest, because you did not receive a journal entry for Menta Na's death. This can be fixed by setting quest stage 20, then re-activating the statue. It may be that this only happens if you Soultrap Menta Na; your quest, in its specifics, was to kill him and send his soul back to Oblivion for Molag Bal to torture it forever. If this conditional halting of the quest does prove to be due to Soultrapping, then this is likely not a bug, but intentionally coded as a quest failure. ?
- Menta Na is the only creature in the game from which you can acquire Daedra Skin. The only other places to find it are in random loot or from vendors.
- This bug is fixed by the Morrowind Patch Project. As of patch level 1.6.4, Daedra Skin can be dropped by clannfears, daedroths, hungers, ogrims, and ogrim titans.

10 | While in a Shrine to Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince spoke to me at the altar. He was angered, and I was afraid. His anger, however, was not directed at me, but rather toward one of his minions. Menta Na, a Daedroth Monarch, has grown lazy, and no longer does Molag Bal's bidding. If I kill Menta Na in his dungeon Kora-Dur, returning his soul to the Outer Realms where Molag Bal can punish him, then Molag Bal will reward me well. | |

30 | I've returned to the Shrine of Molag Bal, having killed the Daedroth Monarch. Molag Bal was true to his word, and has rewarded me with his mace, the Mace of Molag Bal. |

A Cure for Vampirism[edit]
When you seek Molag Bal's Shrine during the quest A Cure for Vampirism
'So, you do not enjoy the blood hunger, little leech? Do you miss the warmth of the sun? I can obtain the cure for you, but you will help me first. You will find my daughter, Molag Grunda, in the dungeon Dubdilla below Mt. Assarnibibi. There she hides with her consort, the lowly atronach Nomeg Gwai. She believes hiding in a sorcerer's cave will shield her from my eyes. Foolish girl!'
'I ordered her not to associate with these animals. I told her what the penalty would be for her disobediance! Yet she continues to defy me! Willful beast! I cannot have this. Find her, mortal. Kill her and the atronach, so I may deal with them in the Outer Realms. When this is done, return to me, and I will rid you of your unlife. Take care, mortal, for she is powerful. She is still a daughter of Molag Bal.'
After killing Molag Grunda:
'I see you have done as I asked, little vampire. It was not easy for me to obtain the cure, but I was able to pry it from Vaermina after some..discussion. You have earned it. Now I have eternity to punish my daughter for her defiance. Your curse is lifted. Yet..I wonder, will you miss the taste of blood on your lips? When you sleep, will you taste the salt and copper flowing over your tongue? Go, mortal. Bask in your precious sunlight.'
Molag Bal's Quest[edit]
When you activate Molag Bal's shrine in Yansirramus: Bobby fischer the knight who killed the kings pdf free.
'Why do you summon me now? I have no time for your pleadings, weakling. I have other matters that need my attention. Menta Na!!! He will pay for his insolence. Listen well--those in my service will do my bidding, or they will suffer eternal torment. You will serve me, mortal.'
'Menta Na has grown careless and lazy. He sits in his wretched cave while life on the surface goes on unmolested. He was spawned a creature of terror! His role is to sow fear and discord among men and mer, yet he is content to stay locked in his cave and mock my will!'
'Kill him, mortal. Set his soul flying to the Outer Realms so that I might show him eternal torture for his disobedience. Take this key. You will find him in in the caves of Kora-Dur, east of Kogoruhn. Kill this lazy fool for me, mortal. Do this, and you will have my favor.'
After killing Menta Na:
'Ah, you have freed the soul of Menta Na! Torment will be his. Endless agony is all he will know until the end of time. You have performed well, mortal. Perhaps you will be my servant again one day. Take this and use it well. Bring strife and discord with you wherever you may travel. Now go'
Notes[edit]
- Like the name suggests, the Mace of Molag Bal is associated with him.
- For all Daedric Shrines associated with Molag Bal, please see the following list.
- During the quest Molag Bal of the House of Troubles, you will be asked to travel to Bal Ur as part of pilgrimage. Interacting with the shrine will state 'Once like a Great House founded on sand, Stood our Temple whose pillars on troubles were based. Now mischievous spirits, bound, in dim corners stand, Rotted columns, but with iron-bound bands embraced. Cracked, crumbling marble, tempered on every hand, By strong steel forged in fire and faith. Shackled, these wayward servants serve the land, The Temple secured by the Builder's grace.'
